Mrs. R A Hibbard dies. long Kansas life and seven children

Mrs. R A Hibbard born 1856 in Louisville later moved with family to Cincinnati Kansas City Baxter Springs Indian Territory and Lowell farm. She married R A Hibbard in 1880 and lived at his Lowell farm until death Dec 27 1915. Survived by five children and a foster son Wade Hibbard.

Mrs Ohlen Dead Baxterite Pioneer Dies at Home

Mrs Louise C Ohlen a longtime Baxter resident died at her West Sheridan Street home Friday evening after illness. She and her late husband ran a hotel here and were in bakery and restaurant business for years. She leaves two grown children Louis Mueblachuster Stroud OK and Mrs Theresa Meyerding Anadarko OK and a brother A L Rehm. Funeral services were held Monday at the home with burial in Baxter Cemetery.

Shelby Johnson Dead

Shelby Johnson died at his home in the southwest part of town last Sunday evening after a long illness and grip. He leaves his wife and three grown sons Edymond Charles and Otto Johnson all of this city. A hunter and trapper and carpenter by trade he built his own boats and once joined the Apostolic faith in 1910. He served in the Union army during the Civil War and died nearly 73. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home, with burial in Baxter cemetery.

DeMossWidowed Poultry Buyer Dies at County Farm

Jim DeMoss once led area poultry trade in Kansas. He died last Friday at the county farm after a long illness and financial reverses. Remains were taken to the city for interment. Deceased had suffered poor health for an extended period and could not recover.

Very Rich Strike Near George Redeagle Land

Redeagle M Com Bn led by Dr Bell Miller Joe Bingham and Less Allen struck rich ore on George Redeagle land five miles south of the city. A car of lead ore was taken out and beneath it lies 24 feet of zinc dirt. Drill found ore at 49 feet. shaft started about 40 feet from the drill hole. Miller, superintendent, calls it the biggest richest strike seen south of Baxter.

Lucky Ike Sees Oil Boom From Picher Mills

W I Bingham of Quapaw sold eighty acres of grass land at farm prices years ago and now it is worth hundreds per acre as Picher Lead Company expands drilling. A cash bonus of 2000 and eight percent royalty on the lease line Ike’s land as a shaft nears rich ore, promising large royalties.

Mrs Boswell Chosen for County High School Trustees

At a county commissioners meeting on Monday Mrs Maud Boswell of this city was named to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mrs A L Harvey on the county high school board Boswell is a Kansas State University graduate and a proponent of advancing education.

Frisco Line to Picher Will Start Soon From State Line

Materials including ties and rails are in Frisco yards for a line to be built from a point south of the city to Picher. Work is expected to begin in a few days. The off shoot will start at the Conrad Kratz place on the state line and run directly to Picher. A wye will be built.

Mines in camp south of town run with strong outputs

Mines in the camp south of town are all operating and producing solid returns. The Anchor Lincolnville Mo rhank and Redeagle are yielding good ore daily, while the Mission and Katy, after a several day shutdown, have resumed running. Overall activity is notably high across the area.

In 1915 Peoria area records show W. W. Scott land valued at 1211.42 dollars for lead, F. L. Rey land at 5259.59 for lead, F. L. Ray land at 7251.68 for silicate, Helling estate 880.15 for mixed ores, Geboe land 319.50 for dry bone, Geboe land 1331.05 for lead, and Geboe land 1168.06 for silicate, totaling 17421.45 dollars.
