On Monday night about 10:30 two men jumped from behind trees by the Sheridan street bridge near the planing mill and held a gun to Will Horton’s head. One thief searched his pockets while the other kept a gun aimed. They took about $10.80 and a pocket knife. Horton described the guns as looking as large as the cannon at Camp Logan.
The W C T U county convention met at the Christian church in Columbus on August 24 to elect officers and conduct other business. Delegates from Baxter included Mesdames Beathon English Haines and Satterlee. Elected officers were President Mrs Alfaretta Mitchell Columbus vice president Mrs Sadie Satterlee Baxter Springs Lecy Mrs Grace Vickers Lowell Treas Mrs Sarah English Baxter. Three new unions were organized in the county and a post meeting reception was hosted by Mrs Chas Stephens with refreshments and music. Mr F B Sewell and family planned a trip to Siroam Springs after stopping by the office for lunch.
