An accident at the old Katy mine on Tuesday afternoon killed Henry Arnhart and Burley Axley when a ten by one foot slab collapsed from the roof. Theo Hudson was injured, nursing a bruised back and a head contusion, while Arnhart and Axley were interred in Baxter cemetery after funeral services held Wednesday.
Tuesday afternoon the Relief Corps will host an event at the grounds during Reunion week with speeches by Belle Harris former WRC president T P Anderson former Kansas G A R commander and Maggie Dornblaser WRC president. Music readings drills and a flag line led by Mrs Esther Hulse.
James A. Gailey, 42, of Twenty eighth street and Grand Avenue, died at 10:00 Friday night from complications after a spider bite four years earlier. He suffered rheumatic pains and wasting of body, was bed confined for three years, and leaves a wife, three brothers, and two sisters. He belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and was sent there for burial Sunday.
The state school of mines at Weir City will feature a pavilion on the grounds with P. E. Hart of California in charge during his visit to his brother-in-law I. R. Bennett. Local events mention grain drills stock, Miss Grace Perkins entertaining, and social visits including Miss Wilda McElhiney from Ottawa and Mrs. Earl Abrams in Kansas City.
