Dent's Cash Grocery promotes the annual four day reunion in Cassville Missouri from August 16 to 19 with fine grounds spring water orderly entertainments and ample amusements. Able speakers and music are promised and plans invite attendees to stay all four days.
Local ads describe a Wheat purchase with honest tests, weights, and top market prices by Willard Coal and Ice Co. Community notes mention births, visits, remodel plans, booster events, and various residents’ moves and illnesses, reflecting small-town life and commerce in early days.
One week from next Saturday is Booster Day in Baxter Springs. Women who have not yet won a prize may compete for a fine watch, with votes counted toward the piano contest credit. Votes must be received by 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Prentice & Co. The piano is on display at Reddy's drug store with other prizes listed in the big ad. The Big Baxter Springs Reunion, in its 28th year, is noted for advertising the town. Tom Wagstaff and Ex-Governor Bailey spoke here last Friday night about the gubernatorial race, with a planned outdoor meeting moved indoors due to weather. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Rhodes of Kansas City are visiting Mrs. Rhodes' mother, Mrs. Samuel Binns.
John H. West known as Bosco will attend the Big Reunion with a stand at Baxter Mill and Elevator. He once lost an arm from a rattlesnake bite during a Baxter Springs event and now lectures on animals in Chicago. A watch prize for the girl who gains most votes by August 6 is offered. Pearl Gregory is among notable locals.
Last Friday Wagstaff arrived as a storm cooled the air and brought light rain. About 3:30 a.m. rain began and lasted three and a half hours, pleasing residents and aiding vegetation. Corn damage from prior heat eased, and prospects for a strong corn crop improved after widespread showers in Joplin Galena and beyond.
