Hawkeye Mining Company sold its mine mill and lease in the Baxter Springs camp to L K McGuffin and Stutsman of Vinita H H Jackson F D Pelsue and J B Gillespie of Welch Oklahoma The buyers have taken possession and started production Gillespie becomes manager Frank Stansbury remains superintendent The modern mill with top ore processing machinery will run steadily as the new owners aim for a strong production record
Town readers are asked to avoid cutting across Library Park while beautification proceeds. Reports note Patton kinship mixups, a Eureka Springs trip, and a Tulsa visitor. A local suit against Galena over an uncovered hole seeks over five thousand dollars. Booster Day May 1 promises cheap goods and auction services. City plans include concrete curb and gutter on business street and wider Military street curb changes.
Council met in regular session with Mayer Jones presiding. Approvals and filings followed including treasurer report, police judge, city attorney, and city marshal reports. New officers Harvey McAboy Hartley sworn in. Harvey named council president for the year. bids to curb and gutter Military street to be advertised. Public cleanup by Ed Polster requested city support. Meeting adjourned to April 27 for curb bids.
Notice is given that bids will be received for curb and gutter along Military street from South to Council streets in Baxter Springs Kansas. Bids must be written sealed and filed with the city clerk by Tuesday April 27 1909 at 4 oclock p m. Work to be done per plans and specifications on file. The city reserves right to reject any and all bids. Given by the mayor and council on August 14 1909 Gro C Coxwes City Clerk.
