Baxter Springs council meets with quorum, approving bonds for new hires and planning sidewalk work. The meeting covers Maplewood addition water access, proposed traffic rules for Southwest Missouri Railway unloadings, and an occupation tax on street fakirs. A $6 deposit is required to request sidewalk line surveys, while Mrs. George Conner hosts Louise’s seventh birthday party for local children.
All airplanes manufactured in the United States for the Army and Navy will bear a red, white and blue bull's eye of three concentric circles. Mrs. W. Casity chaperoned her Sunday school class The Volunteers. Donald and Bessie Kent.
The Daily Citizen and Weekly News contest will close in eight days with votes counted at 8 p.m. on Saturday April 27. Candidates must submit all reports by 3 p.m. sharp, with final reports due next Wednesday evening before sealing in a bank box. No checks on last report.

The A. Hood & Sons company has taken the Rogers corner building at Military and Twelfth Streets and is remodeling it for an auto repair and accessory shop.
The life of Senator William Joel Stone is outlined, noting his birthplace in Kentucky, education at the University of Missouri, multiple public roles from prosecuting attorney to governor and senator, and his leadership on foreign relations during wartime. A local Methodist Aid Society social at Mrs. F R Cook’s home is described with about 70 attendees and performances by Mrs. Hazel Cammack and Miss Rummell.
One of the largest Methodist demonstrations in Baxter Springs occurred Tuesday afternoon as a farewell to the old church and a groundbreaking for the new site at Thirteenth and East streets. About 300 attended a 3 30 program at the old church, then processed to the new site with speeches by Mayor Wright and others.
Cherokee county faces a farm labor shortage with Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce attempting to act as a clearinghouse for farm help. Twenty five applications have not placed a single man yet, as farmers in the region weigh the demand against available workers. Meanwhile Tulsa oil activity expands with Elveras Investment well No 1 near Tulsa showing 76 barrels daily and Prosperity well No 1 reporting air in four feet in pay before shutdown for tankage. Mrs J W Graham of Afton Oklahoma visits her sister Mrs Jno Jones in this city.
