J A Maher g, president of the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association, voices concern from Shellbrook and Prince Albert hearings. He notes farmers hesitate to testify fearing retaliation, yet evidence suggests a need for legislation to curb aggressive implement company sales and collection methods.
The body of W B Crawford, a well known estate agent who vanished May 11, was recovered Sunday night from a well four miles northeast of Wainwright Alto. Indications point to murder with the body dumped headfirst into the sixteen foot deep well filled with manure and straw. Several people are under suspicion.
In the surrogate court of Battleford the estate of Walter Tebbs deceased calls creditors to file claims by July 4 1914 with statutory declaration and details of any security held. Dated Battleford January 9 1914. Livingston Atkinson solicitors for the executrix.
Public auction planned by the Sheriff of Battleford for August 7, 1914 at 1 pm at Cut Knife Post Office. Property: SW quarter section 14, township 4, range 23 west of the Third Meridian in Saskatchewan. 160 acres, chocolate loam soil, 75 cultivated acres, good well, near Trunk Pacific Railway. Reserve for plaintiff bid.
Guelph Ontario June 21 Prof Graham of the O A C said last nights frost was disastrous for farmers and truck gardeners in the district with four to ten degrees of frost. Farmers report spoiled vegetables and heavy damage to fall wheat and peas.
N Goulet resident of township 45 20 south of Delmas took a coal lease Monday for his farm noted as having strong indications of coal. Parties offered Goulet an attractive figure earlier but he did not secure government mineral rights, leaving the land open due to lack of lease.
Sioux Falls S D June 23 Nine persons were killed and forty injured as a tornado swept Watertown Dak destroyed 300 buildings and cut all telegraph and telephone lines to the city. The same dispatch noted damage in the surrounding area and probable loss of life.
The Battleford Oil & Gas Co Ltd issues a prospectus detailing a capital of 150000 dollars, divided into 30000 shares of five dollars each, with 6000 shares offered to the public. Officers listed include President W. W. Livingston Vice President M. Hunter and Secretary-Treasurer F. G. Atkinson, with directors Dr. Ewart E. Wright and C. T. Cloft.
Under an order of the Local Master a sheriff sale by public auction will be held July 13 1914 at 2 PM in the Battleford Court House Saskatchewan. The property is the North West Quarter Section 30 Township 42 Range 22 West. Terms require 25 percent cash at sale and balance on transfer within two months. 5 percent deposit forfeited if sale not completed. National Trust Company Limited may bid at the sale.
Council met with Mayor Smith and councillors present as letters were read. A salary cut of 300 annually for Engineer Potter was referred to committees. The town debated lot transfers tied to a parish playground and a ministerial instruction, with further delegation inquiries planned.
Nearly an inch of rain fell Thursday night across the district with fairly general precipitation. Some hail damage reported in Kindersley area and nearby Wilbert in the Cathouse district but damage described as very slight.

A gas pocket was struck while digging a water well five miles east of Biggar at Vance. The gas rush injured the well digger and unconsciousness followed. Gas continuously bubbles at the bottom, heard from some distance, suggesting a larger reservoir and fissure. No attempt yet to confine or assess pressure. Independent notes potential for a boom if quantity is sufficient.
Ontario election scene shows Liberal party unified behind Rowell while Whitney faction is split by dissent over policies. Independent Conservative candidates oppose Whitney planks and longtime party members work for the Liberals. Ottawa Citizen shifts to back Liberal policy.
At a Wilkie preliminary hearing Robt Ferguson was committed for trial on a murder charge in the Lachner boy case. Earlier reports suggested accidental shotgun discharge from Ferguson, but new details showing the boy's hands shot through indicate he tried to shield his face, prompting the arrest.
Dr Millar the coroner was called to Maidstone to hold an inquest on a boy found in the Battle river south of Maidstone. The death may be the drowning reported about a month ago at that locality.
His Honor Judge Dickson orders a Court of Confirmation to review the Tax Enforcement Return of Rural Municipality of Prairie No. 408. The hearing will be at the Scott Court House at 2 PM on Friday July 16 1914. Dated Battleford April 24 1914. Bradley treasurer.
The 1914 assessment roll for Battleford is open for inspection at the secretary treasurer’s office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on every juridical day except Saturday, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Notice from the Executive Council of Saskatchewan states a commission issued under the Great Seal to inquire into the sale of farm machinery and related items. It calls for any persons with information to come forward in Regina, names Charles H Ireland among others.
A High School Board meeting last evening selected W. R. Robeson as principal to fill the coming vacancy. Robeson, then principal of Indian Head High School, provided strong testimonials on his ability and experience.
The meeting in the Methodist church club room drew a small crowd as the Political Equality League discussed women's suffrage in Saskatchewan. Secretary Mrs Storer reported on a Yorkton Methodist conference visit, ministers and laymen pledging support. Mayor Smith spoke on franchise extension and M L A S Simpson expressed strong support. Napoleon Champagne, brother of a Battleford member, is running as an independent Conservative for one of Ontario's two Ottawa seats.
