The Times Company at 83 Front Street, Bath Maine presents six months in advance terms for subscription. Pres Nichols and Treas Barry C Webber announce a better rate of $1.00 for advance payment.
The Rev. Robert F. Hollett of a Chicago suburb church condemns “Alumnus Christians” who drift from regular attendance after moving to the countryside. He urges continued church work and defends religious freedom as essential to American government and society.
Officials warn that civilian production will shrink as government allotments of steel aluminum and copper for civilian items are cut drastically. Producers planned dual use facilities but structural steel is used twice as fast as it can be made and new civilian factories are blocked.
About 40 million televiewing Americans watched the Japanese peace treaty signing and the pens used by signers became valued keepsakes. Each pen gained a 3 to 8 inch gold band engraved with Peace Pact 1951 and was collected by curio dealers and museums. Delegates handed their pen to a State Department treaty technician who capped and returned it.
A recent survey shows that over half of Americans have had no adult experience with a peaceful world. The study estimates 85.5 million were under 21 when Hitler invaded in 1939 and 80.9 million had not witnessed a mass employment or re arm effort around age 31 when the United States began rearming in 1941.
A Portland pathologist has determined the bones found in a Richmond gravel pit were buried for at least 20 years. The investigation ends as workmen reported a human skull found among scattered bones along a highway. Officials believe the site was an old family burying ground on the farm from which the gravel was quarried.
About 142 employees of Congress Sportswear Co in Callitonia will vote October 4 in a National Labor Relations Board election at the G A R hall on Middle Street to determine if they want representation by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union CIO. Management and union representatives petition for the election, with CIO having prior organizing attempts, the latest in 1947 and again this August.
Alexander Gelinas of Shawinigan Falls Quebec District Governor of the 285th Rotary District visited Maine towns Sunday. He joined a luncheon hosted by Mr and Mrs William McNealy and was hosted with Past District Governor Paul Thurston and Mrs Thurston and Mr and Mrs John Parker. Gelinas continued with club visits in Brunswick Westbrook Portland and Bath and stayed at Hotel Eagle in Brunswick.

The Nellie G. the 75 passenger steamer began Boothbay Island service in 1894 95 built by Nathaniel Hanson of Woolwich for Williams & Holbrook It towed logs on Merrymeeting Bay and later ran passengers between Boothbay Harbor and the islands. Capt Amasa Williams owned and operated the line until 1932 with his son Walter continuing until 1948 when Captain Ross Dickinson took over. The vessel is now tied at Falmouth Foreside and Walter Williams lives in Boothbay Harbor.
William E Staples of Rockland pleaded guilty to passing another vehicle with obstructed vision on U S Highway 1 in Woolwich and paid 10 dollar fine plus 4.70 dollars costs. Emile Pelletier of Bowdoin admitted overload of 1000 pounds on a truck and paid 10 dollars plus 4.70 dollars costs. Frank E De Wick of Woolwich pleaded guilty to speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on Leeman Highway and paid 5 dollars plus 4.70 dollars costs.
John J. Karkos of Lisbon Falls was found guilty of petty larceny in Bath Municipal Court and fined 50 dollars with 73.18 dollars costs. County Attorney Charles T. Small immediately appealed to the October term of Superior Court and Karkos posted a 1000 dollar bond for their appearance. The case involved alleged larceny of logs in Bowdoin and Topsham belonging to John L., Fred and Louis Jack and their sister Arlene Boucher.
A Friday YMCA meeting for girls interested in joining the Junior Hi Y discussed future activities and set an Oct 3 get acquainted party with a box lunch. A membership committee was appointed including Sylvia Googins, ancest Warner, Bethel Estes, Ann Cyr, Phyllis Warner and Ruth Bowen.

Bath residents near Morse High School are urged by Police Chief Moriarty to have students leave cars at home. He cites reckless noontime driving endangering others and warns of possible enforcement if parents do not cooperate.
The Manpower Committee met after summer break at Mayflower Restaurant. Attendees included Chairman Roy G. Stewart and Committeemen Frank H. Reinoehl Donald J. Gurney and John P. Crosby. Recruiting Sergeants Kenneth R. Judkins and Lawrence A. McLain were present at the local post office.

Burns was the complainant in both cases.

The party boat Donalene of Boothbay Harbor has been sold by its owner George M. Lowden to the Foxy Boat Service at Lakeport New Hampshire. The vessel built in 1930 at Lobster Cove by Robinson has operated out of Boothbay Harbor for years as a half day excursion boat. Lowden ran the Donalene for 19 years and reportedly profited beyond its original price. Football has been played at the University of Arizona since.
