Ban On Rentals At Housing Projects Costs Schools
The Hyde and Lambert Park federal housing projects ban on new rentals before sale cut the school department’s revenue by about $4,000. Superintendent Loring R. Addison notes federal subsidies for students with parents on or near federal property will fall due to fewer families living or working on site. Initial surveys showed 86 such students in fall, dropping to 70, with housing residents counted at 235 and workers at 63, altering subsidies from about $92,215 to just under $8,000. Final numbers pending completion of the survey, with eligibility potentially extending into the next fiscal year as base personnel and housing demands change.
