Rotarians Hear About Thailand And Its People
Earl H. Hutchinson of the U.S. Department of Education, back from Thailand, told Bath Rotary members and guests about the country’s people. Thailand, in Southeast Asia, is described as peaceful, pro-American, and not seeking power, with exports of tin, fruit, and rice. Hutchinson outlined four aid avenues: agriculture technical help, public health measures, industrial development, and education. He noted local farming education and examination-based student advancement, plus hardships from snakes and disease. The Bath club voted to sponsor an exhibit of Bath-made products at the Memorial Hospital Fair. Next week’s speaker is Marion Martin, Commissioner of Labor. Visiting Rotarians from several towns attended.

Bath's First Polio Case Of The Year
Warren Kenney age 19, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Kenney of 22 Goddard street, was taken to Maine General hospital as a suspected polio victim after a day of severe headaches. He had worked in the Bath Daily Times composing room and was later moved to Memorial and Portland hospitals for tests. Dr Theodore M Stevens confirmed the likely polio diagnosis. This marks Bath's first polio case of the year.

Negotiator Hopes To Settle Bath Iron Works Dispute
Harry Smith of the U S Mediation and Conciliation Service is in Bath to work with Bath Iron Works and the local AFL Shipyard Union on a new labor contract under Taft Hartley. Another Strike Vote To Be Taken At Armory Friday
Bath Iron Works production and maintenance workers plan a strike vote Friday at 4 30 PM for day shift and at midnight for night shift at the State Armory. The vote, if approved, could trigger a strike starting Sept 25 when current labor contract ends, after a prior vote by 700 members authorizing action.
