Woods Fires Tie Up Bath And Brunswick Fire Crews
Two major woods fires and multiple smaller blazes kept Bath and Brunswick firefighters busy Friday afternoon through Saturday. Crews fought a stubborn blaze at Winneganee Ridge near Bridge Street and aided Brunswick on the Bailey Island fire along Route 24. Helicopter guidance aided pinpointing flames while drying, windy conditions hampered suppression efforts and a dozer created an earth fire break. Firefighters battled underground smoldering stumps as water lines stretched along old woods roads and crews remained on scene into Saturday morning.
