Bath Police Capture South Windham Escapee

A South Windham Men's Reformatory escapee, Scott Workman 16, fled from Yarmouth to Bath in a stolen car before a Route 1 pursuit ended with his capture. Bath Patrolman Arthur Tainter and colleagues stopped him near Center street after a high speed chase, with State Police and Brunswick police establishing road blocks en route. The fugitive damaged a gate and a tire in the crash and was later held at police headquarters.

Maine Congregational Churches Hold 24th Conference

The 24th annual meeting of the Congregational Christian Churches of Maine, also marking the 148th Maine Missionary Society gathering and 126th Maine Ministerial Relief Society, opened May 2 in Bangor with Raymond D. Hasenful Wins People's Choice at Five Islands Show

Richard Hasenful of Five Islands and West Roxbury Mass is named the people's choice artist at the Five Islands art show closing last week. His huge oil Moon On the Sea drew more votes than the next four entries combined, among 89 pictures receiving ballots.

Bath voters to decide three charter and parking district changes

Citizens of Bath will vote on three referendum questions September 12. Proposals include reducing City Council from 14 to nine, remunerating members at 250 dollars annually, creating a Bath Parking District, and establishing a full time Assessor with an Assessment Review Board. City Manager cites growing traffic and parking needs.

Navy Plans All Maine Sailors Company Formation

Navy Recruiting Officer announces plans to form an all Maine sailors company, the 61st such effort in state recruiting. Applications from men ages 17 to 31 are invited, with training at Bainbridge Maryland and a nine week program ending in a 14 day home leave. Two Bath Alumni to Study in Germany for a Year

Graeme Hanson and Nicholas Sewall of Bath depart for a year of study at the University of Heidelberg Germany. Both Yale Class of 1956 graduates sail from Quebec and will join seven Yale students at Heidelberg this year. Hanson holds a West German government scholarship and Sewall goes as a Yale exchange student to the German University. They plan to arrive in Le Havre in about nine days and begin studies in October.

Three Men Drown As Bath Sloop Founders Off Monhegan

Bath Chevrolet dealer H Rodney Brooke 58 and two employees Harold Smith 37 and William Freeman 39 died when the 29 foot sloop Flying Dutchman capsized near Monhegan Saturday night. Survivor Leston T Harrington Jr 33 from Bath was rescued by Coast Guardsmen and treated for shock.
