Millard Filmore Jewell of Phippsburg Built City Cafes
Millard Filmore Jewell, son of Eben Jewell who kept Pond Island light, left Maine as a youth to settle in Chicago and Cleveland. He built a thriving confectionery and soda business, opening multiple cafes with modern equipment. Jewell owns a Peak's Island cottage, a power boat, and spends summers in Casco Bay cruising with his family.
