Sidney L. Eaton, newly appointed treasurer of Bath Iron Works Corp., was guest of honor at a Hotel Sedgwick banquet hosted by 40 office personnel. A steak and turkey dinner followed by a desk set gift marked his promotion from assistant treasurer. The group, led by Howard I. Small, also celebrated Eaton’s 25 years with the company. Mrs. Eaton and daughter Mrs. Harold E. Oldis attended.

Wilfred B. Chaney, 24, son of Mr and Mrs Vernal P Chaney of 18 Cato Avenue, has begun duty in Groton Connecticut as senior naval hull inspector for shipbuilding. He recently worked six months at Portsmouth Navy Yard after four years at Bath Iron Works. His father also works at Bath Iron Works. Chaney, once Morse High School student, is noted as an outstanding Maine golfer with Iron Works trophy and wins at Sebasco and the Country Club.

Fatal Accident Near Montsweag Farm Involving Car Overturn
A Thursday crash near Montsweag Apple Farm in Maine left Michael Tonely dead and three passengers injured after an Oldsmobile failed a curve and plunged into a ditch. Eyewitnesses said the car sped before crossing a culvert and overturning. Injured passengers were taken to Osteopathic Hospital. Police investigated. The University of Maine announced eight civilian defense courses for women students this semester, including surgical dressing knitting motor corps nursing warden gas defense nutrition aid and canteen, open to home economics students with prior nutrition and first aid.
