Bath land founder Robert Gutch and the Dutch acres saga
The Bath area traces back to Robert Gutch, blamed for the town’s early land boom. He settled around 1660 after Leaving Salem, held key Long Reach plots, and his descendants spread through Sagadahoc and Arrowsic regions. Documents note his church ties, loyalist oaths, and a probable drowning ending his Bath epoch. The Dutch acres title chain passed through daughters Debor ah and Lydia and linked families like Rogers Elkins Tilman and Hodgkins over two centuries.
