Southern Cross on Brazil’s Money and Symbolism

The cruzeiro, Brazil’s monetary unit, borrows its name from the Southern Cross constellation used by mariners south of the equator. Historical records show a drawing of the Southern Cross was among the first souvenirs sent to King Manuel I by Pedro Álvares Cabral after Brazil’s 1500 voyage. Today the constellation appears on Brazil’s flag and coat of arms and in its currency.

Fall From a Tree Fatal to Boy in Phippsburg

Charles M. Berry a 16 year old of East Brunswick died Thursday from neck and head injuries after falling from a tree while training coon dogs with six companions on West Point road in Phippsburg. He was taken to Bath Memorial Hospital. Berry had been living with Velma L. Crocker in East Brunswick.

Day’s Ferry Pupils Enjoy Geography History Field Trip

Nequasset Church Hosts Slide Night by Kirk Roberts

Bowdoinham Motorist Pleads Guilty on Route I Charge

In Bowdoinham a driver faced charges on Route I near Woolworth. Trooper Frank testified. the accused posted a $10 bond and $0.70 costs. A Topsham case involved pocketbook theft brought by Bath Police. the defendant pleaded guilty and received three months in Augusta jail. One intoxication case was placed on file by Judge Deering.

Nequasset Farm Bureau Meeting Highlights and Plans

Nequasset Farm Bureau met with 16 in attendance at Dae noe on arete. Officers and members visited Mrs. Dodge's rock garden then held a business meeting voting to hold a community food sale on November 11 at 11 a.m. The next meeting is set for November 12 at the Good Will club house Sagadahoc Ferry with a garment making demonstration by Mrs. Percy Marston. Navy recruiter to visit Bath weekly at city hall

A U S Navy recruiter will be in Bath each Tuesday visiting City Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans of World War II may receive Victory and American Defense medals at the Navy station during the Tuesday visit led by Chief Mack Zimmerman.
