New Bath Traffic Route Suggestion Shifts Local Debate
Rex Prescott urged Maine Highway Commission to study a new Bath Brunswick link after a Brunswick hearing, proposing a North Street extension route via Wing Farm to Bath Bridge, potentially diverting traffic from the business district and prompting merchants to weigh trade impact against shorter distance. The proposal contrasts with the existing West Bath route via Center Street and West Center Street, which some merchants fear could reduce downtown business.

Romance of Mary Barrett recalled in Bath trip tale
About 11 years ago the schooner Mary Barrett sailed from Bangor to Norfolk to load coal for Rio de Janeiro. Capt Steadman Richards married Miss Bessie Irving in Bangor and the honeymoon voyage aboard the Nancy Barrett ended with him later commanding Sally Noyes and Harold Foss. He died ashore nine months after a fall aloft. Mrs Richards recalls a pleasant trip despite the ship’s deep load. Now hauled out at Robinhood, the old craft evokes romance and sadness as it nears decay while Mrs Richards and friends tour from St John New Brunswick to Springfield Mass via Bath.
