State sanatoria reduce tuberculosis waiting list and save funds
Waiting list for tubercular patients across three state sanatoria dropped from 200 to 9 in 18 months while institutions collectively saved about $60,000 this year. Gains came from targeted treatment, patient movement, segregation, and using 20 beds in semi private hospitals. Sanatoria are in Hebron, Fairfield and Presque Isle. One saved $3,000 on laundry, another $2,000 on electricity, and a third cut nearly $1,000 by buying drugs under chemical names rather than proprietary brands.
