Pilgrims saved by trading post on the Kennebec
Prof George F Dow describes how the Kennebec trading post kept Plymouth afloat by supplying goods and enabling debt payments. He notes Allerton's 1627 patent, Dutch wampum influence, and the 1644 clash that led to a fatal confrontation, ending with the post’s transfer to Plymouth in 1688 to avert a planned Indian raid.

Urges Necessity of Big American Merchant Marine
Boston talk by Commissioner Edward C. Plummer of the United States Shipping Board on shipping matters and the subsidy bill. He argues for government aid to rebuild a robust merchant fleet, cites historical urgency, and highlights direct South American trade, New England export gains, and the need to develop American flag tonnage to compete with British and continental lines. The speech links transport improvements to broader national prosperity and warns against policy delays.
