The administration favors boosting farming through cooperative marketing. A proposed division within the Department of Agriculture would aid cooperatives without regulatory power, guiding effort to expand cooperative handling of farm products. About 2.5 million farmers already use cooperatives, with an estimated 2.5 billion dollars in products marketed this year.
Charles M. White of Maine's Division of Markets says this year's potato crop will exceed 30 million bushels, below last year's 41 million. The nationwide drop in potato yields and higher prices are expected to benefit potato growers, with Maine farmers likely seeing better prices than last year.
The piece notes Maine potato prices in Bangor at about three dollars per bushel with strong demand from commission houses. Residents along Lincoln and Market streets in Saco report a mysterious black animal about three feet long with a peaked face and short legs roaming a nearby dump. Nighttime sightseers with guns chase the creature, while locals and their dogs keep up constant barking. Some fear a coon while others suspect a water creature.
Efforts by Ellsworth Board of Trade raise 15000 to start Ellsworth shoes. Bowen Morse Co will operate Calais plant and move to equip Carroll Felt Shoe Co to restart factory. Production target Feb 1 with 200 to 250 workers, using existing equipment and local help where possible.
The text of the address entitled Maine the Beautiful by President Hodgdon CC Truzzell of the Maine Senate and broadcast from WHN New York on February 20 is published in Sprague's Journal of Maine History October December issue. Justin Ricker, TA, was beaten in a barn near his home and robbed of $200. He is unable to fully describe the attack. Dr Henry M Moulton, 62, physician and former Maine legislator, died at home in Cumberland Center after a two week illness. Deputy Levi Patterson of Freeport arrested Owen Newman of Porthind after a street fight incident in Yarmouth as four assailants reportedly fled.
A Maine sponsored May to Florida rail trip was announced for a special Pullman train limited to 154 passengers with 400 already listed as interested. The effort involves five statewide Maine organizations and aims for a coordinated tourism excursion.
The Cramp shipyard in Philadelphia lays the keel for a new steamship for the Eastern Steamship Company to run on the Boston Yarmouth route. The vessel will measure 870 feet, with twin screw turbines and an expected speed of 18 knots.

More than 300 persons attended the Married Women’s Sodality supper at St. Mary’s church in Clifford hall. Long tables were set in three rooms with a plentiful menu including baked beans meats salads rolls cake doughnuts coffee cocoa and tea. The supper committee included Mrs. M. A. Ti araden Mrs. J. J. Murphy Mrs. Lewis Avery Mrs. Edmund Arsenault and others. Dining room progress was assisted by Mrs. John Costain Mrs. John Hart Ward Lee and additional helpers.

Levi Cole age 70 of Arrowsie died Tuesday morning at City hospital after a long illness. Funeral will be held Wednesday at Riverside cemetery Day's Ferry with burial in the family plot. Born in Cambridge he was a son of Daniel and Nellie Cole. He worked years at the Androscoggin mill in Lewiston before farming. His wife died four years ago. Survived by son Charles Cole of Los Angeles and daughter Sister Antoinnette of Lewiston. a brother Freeman Cole of Lewiston.
The A and SR Ry Co will run Sunday schedules on Thanksgiving morning starting at 7 20 from each end of the line. One car will depart the city for Brunswick at six to connect with the Maine Central Vine Tree Limited, which will operate as on weekdays.
