Mrs Thelma Skillin of Phippsburg plunged into the Kennebec to rescue Walter Green Jr 18 and James Green 17 from the river near the Columbia Hotel. She freed Walter then guided both to a piling where bystanders aided. The boys, exhausted but alive, were pulled to safety. Mrs Skillin is praised for bravery and may receive a Carnegie life saving medal.

They blamed home, school and church for failures and urged coordinated youth preparation.
