Elbridge Mains 88, son of Sargent and Martha Fish Mains, died at Malden hospital after a heart attack. He lived near Five Islands and Riggsville in youth, married Julia Small, and later resided in Massachusetts with a summer home at Five Islands. Interment was at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, Mass, beside his wife. He leaves a niece Lora Powers of Columbus and a nephew Sumner Mains of Bay Point, plus cousins Adie Lovell and William Mains.
Bay Point residents and visitors from Bath Freeport Cape Elizabeth Arlington Mass and Georgetown gathered for weekend calls. Families including Moore Coombs Tibbetts and Furbish joined holidays and hunting trips at Grand Lake Stream and nearby cottages. Skipper Burnham returned to his duty in Matinecock Rock after a leave with relatives.
Thirty two boys from third and fourth grades in Bath joined the YMCA Midget Basketball League after a weekend clinic. The session covered passing, dribbling, and fundamentals. A follow up basketball clinic for third and fourth graders is set for next Saturday from noon. Alberta Richardson daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Alexander of Sebasco wed Conrad Hersom son of Mr and Mrs Frederick Hersom at Wesley Methodist Church in a double ring ceremony officiated by Rev Dr Oliver W Bell. Reception followed at the bride’s home with familiar relatives assisting and the couple to reside at 8 Lincoln Street.
Five Islands Ladies Bible Class met with Mrs. George Gray and listed members including Mrs. A J King and Mrs. Harlan Pinkham. The Good Neighbor club resumed bi monthly meetings with officers elected. Laymen's Association met at Bowdoinham Baptist church and supper was served. Various residents and guests attended weddings, visits, and events in Bath Yarmouth and Georgetown. X rays for Erland Moore and furnace work for Orville Rowe were noted among household updates.
Morse High School presents Mohiba on December 6 and 7 in the school auditorium with a ball planned for December 14. Rehearsals are underway under the direction of Austin Miller and Mrs Louise Mayo with student council sponsorship. Miss Ethel Barter of Academy Street attended a Sunday birthday gathering in Boothbay Harbor for her father Capt Will Barter’s 80th. Bath guests included Thatcher B Pinkham and Mrs Pinkham, Thatcher B Pinkham Jr, and Clement Barter. Dillon Gillies of North Bath was elected treasurer of Norwich University class of 1961 in Northfield Vermont.
Bath Extension Group held its Thursday meeting at Hyde Park Community hall electing Mrs. Harry Fullerton as chairman and naming officers for the year including Mrs. Franklin Crowell as assistant chairman and Mrs. Elihu Fullerton as secretary A planning meeting is set for December 5 to schedule programs A Scotch auction followed the business session with 13 members and two guests present.
Bath area residents aged 14 and over will be surveyed with X rays at Morse High School starting at 9 45 am tomorrow. If Morse is done early, juniors may be X rayed next. If not, they join the program next week. The survey runs Monday through Thursday 1 3 and 6 8 pm in city hall under Four County Tuberculosis Association and Maine Department of Health and Welfare. Thelma Munsey of 35 Russell Street announces the marriage of her daughter Roberta Munsey to Melvin R. Predmore of South Otselic New York and the Brunswick Naval Air Station. The ceremony was November 7 at Corliss Street Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Allen officiating. The couple will reside at 424 Washington Street after visiting his parents in South Otselic. The bride works at Bath Memorial Hospital. the groom serves in the U S Navy at Brunswick Air Base.

Chester H Totman 82 of 424 Washington Street died at home Tuesday after a long illness. Born in Gardiner March 16 1875 he was the son of Alonzo and Marilla Totman. Survived by widow Gertrude Stevens Totman two daughters Vivian Pottle Agnes Green seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Former Hyde estate worker 18 years later joined Bath Iron Works as outside machinist retiring in 1946. Funeral Thursday 1 30 p.m. Arthur F Mayo Son Funeral residence Rev Charles R Sims officiating. An Internal Revenue Service representative will be at the local Post Office building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday November 15 to assist the public with any type of tax problem.
Maurice J. Knight, 53, a Bath fisherman, was found dead by Coast Guardsmen on Knubble Bay island near Georgetown and Westport islands after being reported missing. Sheriff Small said the death was due to natural causes. Knight left home to pull lobster traps and his boat was found earlier by his son. Funeral services are set for 3 p.m. Monday at Leslie C. Shumway Funeral Home in Bath. He lived in Bath 35 years and previously on Westport Island. Survived by wife Lorraine, three children, one brother, seven grandchildren, one niece and several cousins. Burial at Oak Grove.

John W. Donnell 45 son of the late William H. and Nellie Farrin Donnel died in Miami Florida after declining health. He was a Bathman by trade, a Morsey High School graduate of 1981, survived by his widow and four children, a brother Raymond Donnell of Newport Rhode Island, a sister Mrs. Stanley Cheney of Kingston Massachusetts, and two aunts Mrs. John Burgon of Bath and Mrs. Charles Randall of Malden Massachusetts.
Linda Marie Shope five days old daughter of Fred J. and Doris McCabe Shope of North Street extension died Saturday at Bath Memorial Hospital where she was born Navy. Surviving: parents one brother Fred J. Shope Jr maternal grandparents Chester McCabe and Mrs. Chester McCabe paternal grandmother Maude J. Shope.
