Bath Woolwich Move to Transfer Peoples Ferry to State
Walter S. Glidden representing Bath and Arthur J. Dunton representing Woolwich met with Attorney General Guy H. Sturgis in Augusta to finalize the legal steps for transferring the Peoples Ferry Co. to the State. The 1919 act authorized the transfer, but both towns must approve via stockholder votes. A Woolwich special town meeting and a Bath city council meeting will appoint proxies for the stockholders meeting, with title abstracts and inventories of personal property to follow. The Woolwich notice will run seven days, and the process should be wrapped in about two weeks.

High tides Thursday disrupted storefronts and pedestrian and vehicle traffic along Commercial street. Water covered City landing and the Maine Central wharf, delaying a westbound train by 40 minutes. A family near the Eastern Steamship wharf used a ladder to exit through a shed window as sidewalks flooded. The Ferdinando Gorges transfer boat rose several inches above the Woolwich drop, forcing freight cars onto a center track in Bath to lower the water level and align tracks so the train could cross the river.

Arrowsic Bridge Opens to Public After Repairs
Willard F. Delano, driver of the Georgetown Five Islands mail, crossed the repaired Arrowsic bridge Friday at 8 30 am in a Ford mail wagon. Two new piers and two new spans replaced the broken section. F W Carlton led the repair in just over four weeks, restoring a bridge that unites Arrowsie and Georgetown after about five months of closure.

Captain Charles V. Griffin aboard the Oakley C Curtis, the five masted schooner, won a transatlantic race from Rotterdam to Bath. The Curtis beat two Bath built rivals, the Wyoming and the Edward J Lawrence, amid wartime adventures and a 71 day earlier voyage from Buenos Aires to Rotterdam. A destitute German former merchant marine commander sought passage aboard, seeking work and entry to America, but Griffin could not assist due to U.S. enlistment laws.
