Lighthouse Tender Geranium to be replaced along Maine coast
The well known lighthouse tender Geranium, a long serving vessel in Maine waters, will be retired and replaced by a newer steamer. Built in 1863 as the John A. Dix, she served Farragut’s fleet and later the government tides of rivers and harbors. Congress has appropriated 200000 dollars for a successor, and Capt Benjamin Cotter, her commander, is expected to command the new craft.
