Smith urges long range thinking for peace
U S Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Skowhegan spoke to a combined Rotary and Lions gathering at Sedgwick noting that long range thinking could have potentially averted the Korean conflict. She warned that winning a shooting war would not guarantee peace if the battle for minds and the spread of Communism were not won through broader public persuasion and economic strategy.
