Lawyer Questions Sheriff Ties in Bootleg Probe
The defense argued O'Hara may have doublecrossed his gang and diverted funds while noting $500 paid to the court to delay jail. They challenged government witnesses as biased and suggested prosecutors traded immunity for Gavin Fahey O'Hara and Garrett to secure charges. The February liquor seizure implicated Weaver and officers in alleged corruption.

Clifford's Argument in Sedgwick County Theft Trial
The government ridicules Sheriff Henderson of Sagadahoc County over admitted ties to self confessed liquor smugglers. In closing, U S District Attorney Clifford Jr. cites Hendersons failure to mobilize help to capture the gang and questions his claimed innocence amid testimony of payments for protection. Defense argues the boss of the gang betrayed them and that agents traded immunity to ruin Henderson. Sheriff Targeted Jury Beliefs on Henderson Case
Sheriff Clifford urged the jury to see Henderson as a lure for bootleggers who trusted a Santa Claus figure to accept bribes. He argued Henderson should have staged a big coup during the Feb 9 liquor seizure but instead went to Boston on a non support case. Clifford questioned Henderson’s absence from Bath and his motive, suggesting infidelity links and questioning Henderson’s honesty about payoffs from O’Hara and others.
