Georgetown Central School closed for Teachers' Convention. Rev Ernest Roberts spoke at Second Baptist Church on Ebenezer and later on The Gospel. Numerous local residents and visitors mentioned with travel, visits, and social events across Five Islands and nearby towns.
The guided missile destroyer Dewey left the river early Friday on a trial run. Local residents report pulpwood drifting down the river over the past two weeks. Social visits include Fred Hatstadt at the Navajo, Louisa Howard in Bath, and the Furbish sisters plus James. Children enjoyed a Halloween walk from the Navajo to Arrowsic. Tibbetts family visitors arrived with a large bag for trick or treat. Emery Rideout and Edward Sampson relocate to Bath for the winter, with Mrs. Sampson stopping by the Navajo Sunday.
The First Baptist church of Georgetown will dedicate its new electronic organ at 7 30 p m Sunday in a service led by Rev Ernest G Roberts. The Book of Memory will be read and gifts listed in a red leather memorial book, a gift from Portland man John Waterman. Dr Elmer Bently will give the principal address with Forest Perkins as guest organist. The organ fund exceeds the goal and profits cover all expenses, with a fellowship hour to follow.
The Fall Conference of the Maine Garden Club Federation will feature a lecture and demonstration by Mrs Raymond C. Cronin of Wellesley Hills Massachusetts on holiday decorations. Gov. Clinton A Clauson will greet attendees at 10 am. Luncheon follows 12:30 to 1:30 pm with a tea at Blaine House at 3:30 pm. A pre-conference Board meeting is set for Wednesday evening at 6:30.
Erland Moore and Alexander King shopped for boat gear in Bath on Friday. Thomas Watson attended a Blue Lodge meeting at Masonic Temple Monday night. Fred Cox closed the ice cream parlor for the season. Reynolds Grover notes unusually heavy mail this past week. Mr and Mrs Joseph Pone hosted weekend guests in Bath, with the How ard Thomas family visiting Sunday. Ray Dunkling from Woolwich bought lobsters Saturday amid a lobster scarcity caused by the recent storm.

Water street will gain a 60 car off street lot with blind meters and mercury lamps. Highway crews began posting meters on Tuesday and, when finished, the lot will boost metered spaces in downtown Bath to over 400. The Parking Commission cites lower costs and maintenance as reasons. Nathan Hale taught school in East Haddam, Conn.
Parents of seventh grade pupils at Bath Junior High are invited to visit the school Thursday evening to discuss results from two standardized tests SCAT and Metropolitan Achievement Test. The event, tied to American Education Week, allows comparison with norms from thousands of cases. Attendance aims to match last spring’s eighth grade meeting, says Principal Moody W. Flint.
At the Central Church League meeting in the parish house, committees discussed the Harvest Fair set for Friday November 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the parish house. A skit titled Fruitful Haystack illustrated the work of the American Bible Society with participants listed, and devotions were given by Mrs. Richard Torrey. The group scheduled another meeting for Monday November 9 at 8 p.m. and announced Alwyn Bulau of Damariscotta as the speaker for November 16.
Mrs Austin Winchenbaugh and Mrs Leila Blanchard of Waldoboro were Wednesday guests of Mrs Winchenbaughs brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Maynard O Brown at their Cottage street home.
