Morse High announces its top honor list from the nearly one hundred sixty pupils. Seniors lead with twenty on the highest honors and four on the honor list. The four seniors are Noma Arik Warren Oliver Miriam Rice and Marshall White.
The Roseway rose garden along Sandy boulevard in Porthind Oregon was officially dedicated Sunday, November 25, with Governor Olcott and other dignitaries presiding. Tavdin Mebellin Baxter, daughter of Senator Rupert Baxter, is named on a rose bush symbolizing local pride. The event featured students in native costumes and civic officials. The garden links to the Columbia Highway, promising to attract tourists to the Northwest.
Bath residents enjoyed a wireless concert Thursday night featuring The Poly City trotphone selo Killaray cornet duet and several band and vocal selections. Interference from commercial stations hid last times, with program notes issued by Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh listing KDRAL S09 and WDC Bon schedules. Institute of Music students in Pittsburgh planned three piano selections for the KDA concert.
George Umberhind and Addie M Bars tow filed marriage intentions with City Clerk Albert Grassy. The ceremony at the Bree Baptist parsonage was conducted by Rev. George Ch Kinhead with Mrs. Bernice A Umberhind and Albert Murphy present. The bride wore blue crepe de shine and an antique solid gold ring. They will live with the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hy Bachelder in Gardiner.
Mrs Sverina White and Eugene Bridge led with the highest scores at the Royal Neighbors for America whist party held Thursday night in Forester's hall. Mrs Lewis Avery and Varry Knight won second prizes as candy was served.
Mary L Turpin of Bath Red Cross chairs a welfare committee reporting fewer than 100 people on the Overseers of the Poor list and fewer than needed applications since last winter. The group urges cooperation among charities to avoid duplications and to verify genuine needs.
The Wesley Sunday School Board met October 6 at Galen D. Watson’s home with 16 members present. They voted to host the county Sunday School Institute at the church on November afternoon and evening with Mrs. Jessie Judkins Baldwin of the International S A Board as principal speaker. Rev. E F Brewster will attend, and Mrs. Erlon M. Dunlap leads the arrangements. A supper will be served and Brunswick schools invited. Mrs. Dunk reported on the recent state association meeting in Augusta.
More than a hundred visitors toured the local telephone exchange during Telephone Week. Morse high pupils led by officials and guided by staff explored the operations, gaining interest as demonstrations explained the system to the public.
The Accident Commission ruled Zinovitch entitled to the maximum allowance after a petition regarding his injury. The Texas Steamship Co. and United State Fidelity and Guaranty Corp contested, arguing the injury occurred outside work duties. Judge John Keegan presided over the hearing in Bath.

More than 75 Sagadahoe Pomona grangers traveled to Small Point on October 26 for their October gathering in Whippsburg. Only one party came by team. the rest arrived by autos with many cars parked near Rodwell grange hall. Clarence of Purinton attended from Bowdoin as state lecturer, welcoming guests. A hearty noon dinner of baked beans and bread accompanied by pies and coffee fed the crowd, many noting the meal alone justified the trip.
The Bath poet Moses Owen who wrote The Retimed Maine Battle Plays is remembered for a distinctive auburn appearance and his poetic ads. His verses appeared in Portland concert circulars and Stockbridge course promotions. His parodied by Albert Colby and others, his work later earned recognition after being rescued from an editorial waste basket. His remains lie in Maple Grove Cemetery near William King’s grave.

Reverend Henry N Pringle of Washington DC assistant superintendent of the International Reform Bureau arrived in Bath on Friday and may stay several days in Maine. He traveled from New York after a ten day inspection tour and altered his Maine itinerary to attend the Maine Tenach e's convention in Bath. He praised Bath's improved conditions and credited National Prohibition Commissioner Roy A Traines with strong leadership against the liquor trade.
Congressman Wallace H. White recommends Dr Langdon T Snipe for appointment to the United States Pension Examining Board. He would fill the vacancy created by the removal of Dr Wallace N Price. Other board members are Dr Robert Hannigan and Dr F E Motley Fuller of Bath. Mr and Mrs Fred P Shaw returned Friday night from Boston where they spent the week.
Capt James Brown claims he holds the key to a $60 million treasure buried on a remote South Seas island. He insists promoters hire him to lead an expedition, detailing tunnels, a long dig, and the exact burial diagram. Brown, a Norwegian seafarer with a vivid history, says the fortune remains untouched since a Peru insurrection era haul, moved for security, and guarded by his knowledge alone.
Captain Brown recounts a voyage begun in New York as second mate aboard a West Indies bound ship. He joins Captain Henry Smith seeking treasure buried on Cocos Island by Smith’s father, Captain Smith of the Black Witch. After mutiny and treasure transfers, Brown survived with two others to Australia, claiming the loot was hidden at a new site and is now lost.
Charles Tolland Duell of New York, treasurer of the Republican State committee, married Dillian Tucker of California at Hillcroft, Meadowbrook, Pa. Hundreds attended, with 100 traveling from New York on a Pullman train. The groom, a former navy lieutenant and Roosevelt associate, and the bride, noted for Three Faces East, will reside at Ritz-Carlton after December 1.
Postmaster H. W. Owen Jr. explains to an Independent reader that the post office offers United States treasury savings securities in 25 cents to 100 dollars, with 4 percent interest compounded quarterly. The notes are insured by the government, redeemable at any post office, and designed to build savings through stamps and certificates for small daily deposits. The program includes reminders through the Government Loan Organization to help savers stay on track.
Great interest is felt in Morse high class football contests as juniors beat seniors 6 to 0 and sophomores defeated freshmen by the same score in practice games at Kelley field.
A recruiting party for Portland coast defenses will stay in Bath for one day to enlist ex service men and recruits into the Coast Artillery Corps at Fort Williams. Applicants should report at the post office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to meet the party and begin processing.
Bangor Maine Central yard saw car 1202 derail into a turntable pit after a misset Water street switch. Wrecking train from Portland, 75 ton derrick, wreck foreman McLenash led the operation to raise the car and place trucks back, with no serious damage and the car bound for Rockland.
A well attended meeting of the Friends of the Irish Republic held Friday night at Knights of Columbus hall. Pres. William J. O'Brien presided and plans were made for a Bath membership drive alongside a national push ending Nov. 30. Executive committee details appointed, with O'Brien as ex officio member and members including Mrs. Morse Burke Flaherty O'Brien Mulligan Hannigen Hartnett Haraden Keegan.
Cony high, previously unbeaten after beating Morse high 43 to 0, was humbled 15 to 0 at home by Deering high. Deering's defense targeted Farrington, limiting Cony to no gains after the first period. Deering shows improved form with a strong line and swift backfield, while Camden beat Lincoln Academy 26 to 0.
Six boys met at Blair and Donald Wilsons Middle Street home Friday night to organize the VV Ve club. Officers and committees on by laws were chosen and a club room secured. Members are Donald Wilson Blair Wilson Jacob Arenstam Benny Abramson David Brown and Emery Budge. The group keeps its three V meanings secret and plans a wintry social schedule.
Stewart Frye entertained eleven boy friends from Washington street with a Halloween party at the Frye home on Thursday afternoon. Decorations featured pumpkins witches and autumn leaves. Prizes included an Eversharp pencil and candy filled pumpkin favors. Edward Drake won the donkey tail game and Stanley Whitehouse collected the most peanuts in the peanut race. Lawrence Small recited a poem to the group amid a musical program.
Fourteen tables contested the weekly card party at Bathaerie of Eagles on Thursday. First prizes went to Mrs. William Shaugnessy and Roger Moulton while Eleanor Landers and Robert Norton earned the booby prizes.
