Patriotic orders attend Memorial Sunday services

The City’s patriotic groups gathered at the Church of the Nazarene for Memorial Sunday. Representatives from Sons of Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spanish War Veterans, American Legion, Girl Scouts, Red Men, and Ladies of the G A R attended. Reverend E B Stetson gave the sermon amid flag ceremonies and band music.

Lack of Evidence Clears Man on Arson Charge in Bath

In Bath municipal court, Elisha Alexander of Topsham faced an arson charge for allegedly setting fire to Herbert Small's farm buildings. After review, prosecutors and defense agreed insufficient evidence to convict, and the case was not pressed. The loss was estimated at 5000 dollars.

Senior Class Ends Morse High School Assembly with Farewell

Principal Arthur B. Scott leads Morse High School seniors in a final assembly in the auditorium. Miss Elizabeth Butterfield chairs a program featuring Miss Cecile Veilleux singing for the first time, with four encores. Various seniors and underclass presidents speak or perform, closing with a farewell song and a final musical contribution by Miss Veilleux and ensemble.

Memorial Day Observances Arranged by Hyde Camp

Arrangements have been completed by T. W. Hyde camp 8 of U V for the annual Memorial Day observance on Thursday. The parade forms at ten, along Washington and Elm to Oak Grove cemetery for exercises led by Rev. Harley A. Shattuck. Special honors will be given to Thomas Gannon, the city’s Civil War veteran, with Marshal Clarence A. Warner and a long list of auxiliary leaders and scouts. The march covers multiple streets ending at Read Nichols Co. wharf for a water ceremony, then back to Center and Front streets. Music by a Wesley Lemont band and schoolchildren will join the display.

Nurses graduate from Bath Memorial at Friday exercises

Miss Madeline Deming Yeatton of Flagstaff received the Doris Chase Purington memorial medal for top average in nursing theory and practice at Bath Memorial hospital School of Nursing graduation in Grace Church Parish House. The ceremony featured speeches by Mayor Arthur Sewall and Dr Langdon T. Snipe, with the Florence Nightingale pledge recited by graduates and staff.

Boston Yacht Club announces Maine Coast cruise plan

The Boston Yacht Club sets an annual cruise along the Maine Coast with rendezvous at Boothbay Harbor on July 15 and calls at Mt. Desert and Camden. An invitation race Marblehead to Boothbay Harbor starts July 13, with additional events on August 4 and August 7. Myrtle Lodge marks 35th anniversary birthday celebration

Myrtle lodge No 8 LL OofI O L celebrated its 35th anniversary in Odd Fellows hall with 21 Merrymeeting Lodge No 7 members from Brunswick joining Bath members for supper. Four charter members attended. A three oclock meeting preceded a banquet led by Mrs Mary Curtis and Mrs Elsie Alexander. The party featured a Cosmopolitan Club program and a Blue Bird bus charter to Lewiston for government day and reception to the lady governess.

Maine college stars from Bowdoin and Colby competed at Bath Country Club for the State Intercollegiate title. Boyd of Bowdoin won the Open trophy after partnering with Averhill. Colby’s Capt. Abbott placed behind, as Bowdoin took the team trophy from Colby. Boyd won the final 1 up over Colby’s captain.

Veteran teacher Miss Annie Torrey dies at 72

Miss Annie Torrey a longtime French teacher in Bath Augusta and Portland died in shallow water near Sasanoa Bluff Woolwich after ill health and aphasia. Her body was found by visitors and identified by the sheriff. She was born 1862 in Richmond and educated at Bath High Abbott Academy and Radcliffe. Survived by brother ex Mayor Joseph Torrey two nephews Bowen Torrey and ex Alderman Haviland Torrey and two nieces Mrs Charles McKay and Mrs Allan Spear.
