Mayor Vetoes Bill as Council Hikes Appropriation
Mayor Donald N. Small vetoed the amended 1947-48 Appropriation Bill at 2:15 this morning and scheduled a June 1 special meeting to consider sustaining or overriding the veto. He cited the total as far above last year plus reduced revenue and rent fees, urging reductions from other departments to fund the School Department. The Council had added about 41,000 to the bill and the School Budget, with figures discussed including 278,492 for school requests and 185,000 in the Finance Committee’s figures, amid questions from Alderman Reading and Superintendent Addison.

Hyde Memorial Home Opened to Sunday Visitors
