Sun spots blamed for telephone trouble in Bath area
Bath telephone service suffered a weekend disruption linked to sun spots and possible aurora activity. A 500 volt surge was measured at the Bath office and long toll lines were affected across multiple circuits, with a temporary cut in Boston communication from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Naval Observatory notes the spots flank earth currents and may explain the disturbance, though the long term influence will fade as the sun rotates.
