Two Morse High Girls Win 4-H Honors in Twin County Show
Morse High junior Miss Jean Brown won first place in the Senior Style Dress Review at Auburn, earning a chance to compete at the University of Maine on June 25 with the State 4-H Review. Runner-up Miss Vaneta Estes of West Bath earned second in the Senior division, previously winning the Junior Review two years ago. Both girls, active in 4-H for six years, hold leadership roles in local sewing circles and junior leaders groups.

Boardman Perry and Helen Moses Elected to Recreation Commission
Lawrence J. Boardman George P. Perry and Miss Helen M. Moses are named to the Citys Recreation Commission to fill vacancies left by resignations. Boardman will serve McLaughlins unexpired term to 1957 Perry serves Parks term to 1956 and Miss Moses replaces Glynn through 1955. Moses won the final ballot with eight votes, defeating Sarkis 8 to 5 after four ballots. Other full commission members are James W. Temple and Archibald M. Main Sr with a meeting planned soon. Boardman and Perry are Morse High graduates active in local sports and youth programs.

Bath and nearby residents will witness three service branches on Armed Forces Day in Brunswick. A morning parade, open house at the Navy air station, crash fire rescue demos, and displays of bombs, jets, and training gear highlight the event. Free films and guided tours run from 11 am to 4 pm.

The destroyer leader USS Mitscher built by Bath Iron Works left Friday for a delivery voyage to Boston. Fog shrouded the coast as she docked near 9 pm at the Boston Navy yard. BIW crews operate her, with regular ship personnel aboard. Commission is set for Friday. BIW officials and retirees, former foremen, PA Crusher Co customers and other invited guests attended.

Bath council approves probe into Recreation Commission
Bath City Council at its May meeting voted 10 to 2 to authorize an amended inquiry into the Recreation Commission and its Director Edward J. McMahn over activities tied to the Kimball field project and related funding. The vote followed a prior six to six tie on investigating McMahn alone.

Morse High presented its annual concert in the high school auditorium drawing large attendance. Highlights included performances by the junior band and M H S Glee Club, majorettes drills, and pieces such as Grand Festival Overture and The Three Little Pigs.

Annual Hospital Day in Bath at Memorial Hospital
Bath residents attended the Memorial hospital open house and tea, hosted by the Hospital Auxiliary in observance of National Hospital Week and Florence Nightingale’s birthday anniversary. Sewer Line Construction Near Brunswick Road Starts
Construction began Monday on a six inch forced sewer line from the new junior high school site to North street. Crocker and Simpson lay about 650 feet of pipe on the west side of the old Brunswick road. The Cullinan diamond, found in a South Africa mine in 1905, was the largest diamond ever discovered.

Cosmopolitan Garden club held its annual meeting Monday with a 12 30 luncheon attended by 17 members from a 30 member roster. Officers and committees were announced, projects cited include flowers at Togus and a hospital garden bed, and a $25 gift to the mother club at its 40th anniversary.
