Woolwich town page reports May Grange degrees conferred and May 13 final degrees with harvest supper. Memorial day plans include services in Sebenon hall and river floral tributes. Fire at Georgetown threatens Nutter Riggsville area with heavy loss. wind shifts and town aid avert worst.
Mrs David Stinson had an illness Tuesday and Dr Fuller of Bath was called. Snipe joiner work at Stevens and visits by local residents near Woolwich Boothbay Bath Old Orchard Boston visitors. Weir completed and good alewife catches reported. House cleaning and farm work underway with many planting peas and potatoes and plans for many chickens this year.
A grass fire near Bowdoin spread rapidly after a passerby lit a pipe. About 50 volunteers fought two hours to save Edwin Jordan’s home and nearby properties. Jordan's young woodlot was destroyed, and W A Batchelder’s lot sustained damage. A tree ember started a second blaze at Mrs Eliza Allen’s Varney place but neighbors quickly put it out.
Friends express sympathy for Mrs. C. W. Oliver amid illness with Dr. Barker and Dr. Wyman consulting. The Golden Rule Sabbath school class raises thirteen dollars for a piano fund by selling soap. Miss Harriet Oliver’s remains arrive for burial in Oak cemetery. The Harringtons begin a fish weir opposite the West Georgetown landing and seek removal due to navigation concerns. Charles Crosby visits town as the first autoist of spring. Captain Sam Cook returns to Bath for summer. Continuous small-town updates on residents and travel reported.
