Hoover to scrap Mayflower will save government funds
President Hoover orders the Presidential yacht Mayflower out of commission to save about 300000 annually. The ship carries nine officers and 148 enlisted men to be reassigned. He plans to travel by other naval craft and fish in Virginia and Maryland at his own expense.

Beacon Wins Title and Holds Cup in Church League
Beacon Street church basketball team captured the 1928-29 Church League championship at the Y gym defeating Central 22 to 11. Bud Hagan led Beacon with four field goals and stifled Red Reed. Truck Pierce added two field goals and two free throws as Beacon secured permanent possession of the trophy. The victory caps a three year run for a club hailed as perhaps the league’s greatest, with Hagan Meister and Jewett due to depart after this season.

The Wesley Church Sunday school board held its annual meeting after a vestry supper last Wednesday. John Stewart was reelected superintendent with Elinor Butterfield as junior superintendent and Lloyd Daley as primary superintendent. Seth Snipe became assistant superintendent and Charles Shepard secretary with Elsie Trott treasurer. Walter I. Day named supply superintendent and a full roster of teachers was appointed across senior, intermediate, junior, and primary departments.
