Loss of the Good Ship Hornet at Indian Point

An 1812 letter from Bath Independent recounts the ship Hornet loss off Indian Point near Parker's Island. Capt. N Glass commanded the Belfast vessel during a voyage from Ireland when fierce north coast storms and heavy seas forced it ashore after Feb 6. Crew sent distress signals and jolly-boat was launched as the vessel endured snow squalls and dangerous tides.
