Save Joshua Tree by Creating a California National Monument

The Joshua tree, a desert lily reaching up to sixty feet, faces preservation through a new Joshua Tree National Monument in California. About 825,430 acres in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties are set aside south of the Mojave Desert, bounded by the Little San Bernardino Mountains and the Colorado River aqueduct near Palm Springs Coachella Valley. The report details the tree’s biology, habitat, and historical uses by Indians and early settlers, noting a century or two of potential life and diverse wildlife depend on the protected area.
