South End Track to Be Rebuilt for Faster Service
The Independent reports that in spring the street railway will lay a new rail from Russell Street southward with the same weight and bed as the current segment to the north end. The south end line has long suffered poor track and rail spread issues delaying service and forcing pedestrians to walk when cars depart. Improved track will enhance city property value and make winter four-wheeled closed cars more comfortable for south end riders. The piece notes the re election of City Clerk Grassy pleased all.

Narrow escape across river voyage ends safely
Will and Charlie Rboneher of Five Islands narrowly avoided disaster crossing from Boothbay Harbor to sell fish. Their boat shipped two barrels of water mid passage near a long ledge, engine stopped, and heavy seas threatened collision with rocks. They deployed a sail, cleared the rocks, reached Lee's Cove, bailed out water, restarted the engine, and continued to Five Islands. The river was roughest after Dog Fish Head, with the Sheepscat crossing cited as especially hazardous in south winds.
