The Bath built Shenandoah once commanded by Capt. James F. Murphy was mined by the coast guard Mohawk off Long Island. Twenty five guncotton mines shattered the hull though vault like timbers kept sections intact. The wreck, sunk in ten fathoms, had stood as a famed wooden clipper since 1890.
Mr and Mrs Henry Wyman were steamer Virginia passengers bound for Bath shopping Saturday. Mrs S C Campbell received pinks from Pomona Grange flower committee and attended church after illness. Everett Harrington hauled fertilizer to Cranberry Point garden. Walter Small town clerk suffers a cold. Mrs Ernest Harrington left for Boston after winter stay with Andrew Harrington. Nelson Heald cuts stove wood on F S Bowker lot. Herbert Manson and Mrs Manson visited Parker Head with Mrs William Cushing. T L Perry buys Trask house in Winnnegance and may move in. Mrs Alvena Oliver shares church service after a bad cold. Freeman H Merritt ill with att Williams assisting. The Merritts returned from White Plains, N Y three weeks ago. Continued on Page Six.
U S Senator William Alden Smith of Michigan will be the principal speaker at the Portland Republican State Convention on March 23. Smith, a leading national figure and eloquent orator, will address 1342 delegates and hundreds more gathered at city hall, outlining Republican policies amid the international crisis.
The Thursday afternoon lecture by Mrs Morrill Hamlin took place at the Parish House on Oak Street at three o clock. A large Brunswick party attended this fourth program in the six lecture series on the war and current events.
The Brunswick orchestral society will present a concert at Town Hall on Monday, March 20, with an orchestra of 50 local musicians and selected outside talent. The program includes works by Verdi, Glinka, Delibes, and Waterhouse with the Coppelia suite and a Czardas.
A Tuesday evening Republican caucus in the common council room selected eleven delegates and alternates for the State and Second District Conventions in Portland March 23. Chairman H G Hodgdon opened the meeting with Howard B Johnson elected chair and R P Ham as secretary. The New England Steamship Co. launched two sister derrick lighters, No 131 and No 133, from Kelley Spear & Co. yard. Each measures 90 by 31 by 9 feet, with 72 foot derricks, and are designed for New York harbor service. They will head to Portland for delivery to a New York tug and pass through the Cape Cod Canal. Captains Kingsbury and Barter command. builders’ numbers 187 and 188.

Because weekly boxes to New York consumed much of the supply the committee requests a second collection urging donations of old linen and cotton table linen sheets pillow cases underwear handkerchiefs and handkerchiefs to the War Relief Room.

Passengers and crew aboard the ferry Hockomock Sunday watched two eagles on an ice floe drifting with the tide. One eagle wore a bell around its neck and appeared baldheaded. The second eagle may have been Widower Dick.
