Phippsburg Sees Possible Tax Cut Amid Budget Shifts

Phippsburg residents welcome the prospect of a seven to eight mill tax reduction this year as the town looks to eliminate the state property tax and suspend a 3500 school fund appropriation. The 1952 budget totals about 57846 with a plan to form a consolidated Smideriden school and to appoint a committee to study a town manager. A budget article to fund the town treasurer and clerk was defeated. The February storm used most of the surplus, narrowing school fund gains. Anita Totman defeated Philip Jacob for the School committee seat. McIntire Henderson and Ralph Doughty were re elected.
