Signature Makes a Great Puzzle
The article details William D Mussenden’s ornate signature used on First National Bank of Bath notes. It explains how rapid signing produced a hieroglyphic style that was hard to forge, its decline after retirement, a souvenir card, and misread as William DPD. It also mentions Bath’s early national banks and a Lewiston police record shorthand mix up with a panhandling case.
