City eliminates floating debt and trims bonded debt
The Bath city government reports complete elimination of floating debt for the first time in years, a net bonded debt reduction of 53 502.69, and a 36 808.37 cash surplus moved to the sinking fund. The new destroyer USS Collett, named for Lt Cmdr John Austin Collett missing in the Battle of Santa Cruz, will be launched at Bath Iron Works on Sunday. Collett, born 1908 in Omaha, served aboard USS Texas and USS Chester, later commanding Torpedo Squadron Ten, and was declared dead in 1943. The ship will be sponsored by his sister in law Mrs James D Collett.
