Name of Maine given several naval craft

A historical note traces the name Maine through multiple ships in two navies. The first U S S Maine sank in Havana, then Britain renamed a captured hospital ship as Maine. A second U S S Maine was scrapped in 1921 under the Washington Treaty, while Britain later commissioned another Maine as a hospital ship. The Royal Navy's current HMS Maine serves in the Mediterranean, 401 feet long with 10 100 tons displacement.
