Mr and Mrs Maurice Haynes of Academy Street have spent the last two weeks at their Cozy Cottage on the point in West Southport.
The Boothbay Register reports 6000 feet of three inch metal pipe laid beneath Boothbay Harbor from Spruce Unit to Squirrel Island by a crew led by William Latter. The operation over rocky, 100 foot deep bottom used his father Richard Latter’s method refined over 44 years. The line was completed by Sunday morning with water service to Squirrel Island.
Genesta Chapter O E S completes a large meeting before July August recess. Members report to secretary Mrs Luther Thompson and two oldest past matrons are made life members. The Independent Brotherhood of Shipyard Workers defeated the CIO in Bath Iron Works for the fourth time since 1941. Ballots totaled 1,420 of 2,100, with 790 for the Independents, 600 for the CIO, and 30 for no union.
A large Masonic group from Solar and Polar Star lodges, escorted by Knights Templar from Dunlap Commandery and led by its band, attended the St John’s Day service at Winter Street church. Rev. Joseph O. Purdue preached on The Pursuit of Happiness and Capture and Escape to a full house with strong musical program.
Cosmopolitan Garden Club will meet Monday at 2 30 PM in the club house. The program committee includes Mrs Lucius Le Mont Mrs Walter Wiggin and Mrs Albert Whitney. The subject is Peonies. Refreshments will be served.
Five destroyers to be berthed at the corporation wharves for two to three months around July 8. Each will carry a crew. they are not here for repairs but simply for berthing. The ships include The Putnam Strong replacing an early Strong, plus Willard Keith James and Brownson.
Roy A. Welker, recently with Bath Iron Works Personnel, spoke at Bath Rotary Club on his World War I YMCA experiences in Europe. He recalled assisting Austrian, Russian, and Serbian prisoners of the Germans in 1918 and 1919.
