Young hotel manager wed in Stratton May 20
Frederick Bacon Burns Jr. and Joyce Powell married in Stratton on May 20. Burns, son of Mrs. Mabel Blair Burns, runs Mountain View hotel and is said to be the youngest hotel manager in the state. Powell grew up in Winter Haven Florida and has worked as secretary to Mrs. Burns. They will spend summer at Mountain View House.

Moose Sightings Near Durham Pasture Attract Curious Neighbors
R Daggett of Durham and nearby residents along with two passing Lewiston motorists observed two half grown calf moose in Daggett’s pasture on the Lisbon Falls road in Durham Friday just before sunset. The animals let spectators approach to within a few hundred feet before retreating into the woods. Daggett said it was his first sighting of moose in Durham.

A surprise shower of personal gifts was tendered Miss Margaret E. Huse by the Cub Garret at its June meeting Thursday evening in the Gielstrup building in honor of her approaching marriage to Max Good of Monticello this month. In charge of arrangements were Miss Emily Jordan Miss Margaret Austin and Miss Marguerite Brown. Refreshments were served. The club voted to have its June activity take the form of a picnic at Higgins Beach on Saturday June 13.

Harry Chase of Bowdoinham was arrested Sunday by Constable Horace Pottle for operating a motor vehicle on Pleasant avenue while intoxicated. He pleaded not guilty, was found guilty, and fined $100 plus $14.01 costs or 60 days in Kennebec county jail. Chase argued he wasn’t operating on the avenue and hadn’t time to back the car into the street before arrest.
