City Recreation Commission Holds Special Session on Field Improvements
The City Recreation Commission met with City Manager Nathan White and Park Department head Walter Millett to plan maintenance and improvements to athletic fields. Proposals include snow fences and drainage work at Goddard and Kelley fields, backstop repairs, and a new home run barrier.

Mixim Motor Co of Middleboro Massachusetts offered 14500 for bronze pump and 14100 for steel pump equipped trucks. Roanoke Corp of Roanoke Virginia bid 14897.65 bronze pump and 14547.65 steel pump. Seagrave Corp of Columbus Ohio bid 15000 bronze pump. Other bids ranged from about 15085 to 16800 with bronze or alternative pumps. White said review may take days and some bidders lacked required information. Bids will be presented to the city council at the June meeting for action.

School and Recreation Boards Reach Summer Playground Accord
At a special meeting the Board of Education and Recreation Commission agreed to use school grounds and facilities for the Summer playground program similar to past years. Cecil V. Rowland was reelected Morse High School band director on a part time basis for another year. The City Manager will propose transferring about 3800 dollars from the 1952-53 unexpended appropriation to this year’s School department account.

West Point Home Destroyed by Early Morning Fire
A West Point single story house owned by Mr and Mrs Niles Wallace and their son Carl was consumed by a fire in the early hours believed to stem from defective wiring. The Wallaces escaped in night clothing as Bath and Phippsburg fire units, aided by a harbor pump, battled the blaze. The family lost all belongings including furniture clothing and shoes.

Jet Plane Crashes Monday Near Richmond
Lieut. C. P. Duke of West Union Indiana escaped with minor scratches after bailing out from an F-84 jet that spiraled and exploded near Richmond. The burst flame lit woods, sparked fires on several tracts, seen by residents, as crash crews cordoned the scene. Dow landed safely at Westport Island after bail out, carried by strong winds.
