John R. Knowlton 76 a longtime Bath resident died Sunday after a period of poor health. Funeral is private tomorrow at 4 PM at his home 762 Middle Street. He was a Bath native son of Jacob and Mary Knowlton learned blacksmithing then worked in insurance and was active in city government and fire department affairs. He leaves a wife a son Maj John G W Knowlton in France and a sister Mrs Charles Nichols.

Mrs Mary A McCarty 76 widow of Turner McCarty died after a brief illness. A native of Westport she lived in Bath most of her life and was active in Winter Street Congregational church and missions. She leaves an only son Hubert H McCarty formerly Bath Iron Works treasurer. Funeral held at North and High streets with Mayor Drake and others serving as bearers. Burial in Oak Grove.
William Passmore 78 a longtime Bath resident and noted carriage painter died Thursday after suffering a shock on July 14 the anniversary of his wife's death. A Prince Edward Island native he served on Bath's common council and attended the Universalist church leaving two sons Arthur and Harry, a sister and a grandson.
Private John Kreidler of Fort Baldwin and Frances Eleanor Harrington of Parker Head married in a private ceremony at the Corliss street church parsonage. Rev Clarence M Fogg officiated. Attendants were Ashton Harrington and Mrs Laura Libby. The couple left for Parker Head by car. The Kreidlers plan to celebrate with friends at Popsham Beach and Parker Head as they begin married life. The article notes a successful July 4 launching program and plans to repeat it on Labor Day.

Blade shortages rise as government ships blades to camps. Mrs. D Howard Johnston and Mrs Bernard Gilpin visit on route to Camden. Damp mound west of Winter Street Church graded into lawn toward willows. Mosquitoes numerous due to grain pools in spring. Snow Park lots all sold. three remain undeveloped with Edward Morse and other lots awaiting homes.
Mrs Albert Downing of Witine gance learns her son Oliver W Webster survived the cruiser San Diego sinking off Fire Island and reached New York with other survivors. Parish house dance honors Miss Cookson of Bangor and Miss Quinland of Reading Mass. Brunswick motorists urge tar-sand machines to curb road tar on hot days.
Montclair residents Mr and Mrs Frank W Clarke visit Birchwood summer home of Mr and Mrs J Edward Drake. Miss Alexandria Martin guest of Miss Katherine Mayers at Popham Beach. Mrs Napoleon Nadeau of Brunswick fatally burned when oil stove exploded at home. Two children present. Sherman Morse, former assistant engineer aboard tug Perth Amboy, recalls sinking by German sub off Massachusetts coast. Carnival company to perform in Bath August under Knights of Pythias auspices with sworn-in constables. Company brings 20 carloads of props including the whip and diving acts varying attractions.
J Edward Blaisdell, ex Bath resident now with Jason Weyler & Sons of Boston, visits his hometown and notes many old business district buildings should be replaced by modern structures. He spent Sunday at Orrs Island and was born on Harpswell Island. Also mentioned are Capt Will H Walsh’s promotion after 24 years in service at Fort Ethan Allen and Suply Sergt John J Walsh in France since September, who earlier served in Mexico with The Fighting Ninth.
William F. Beety of 24 Vine Street charged with operating his automobile under the influence and endangering others was convicted in police court. Judge Ke Ban imposed a $50 fine and three months in jail, with an additional jail sentence if defaulted.
Miss Mary Elizab eth Titcomb married Harold J. Trask of the 56th Pioneer regiment at her parents Farmington home. Rev Paul Gordon Favor officiated as a double ring ceremony with American and service flags in the patriotic setting. The groom presented a tourmaline and pearl necklace to the bride.
Texas Steamship Co officials say the man criticized as unpatriotic was not employed at the yard. They would have dismissed him immediately if the finding had shown he worked there. The Bath beating reports prompted the inquiry and the firm disavows any association with the man.
William Beatty appealed from Judge Keegan’s sentence after driving a car wild through city streets while intoxicated. He received $400 bail for Supreme court at the October term, a $50 fine plus $60.40 costs and three months more jail. His companion paid $3.62 in costs.
