At 3 45 Tuesday afternoon five sharp blasts of the Virginia's whistle summoned the crew to boat drill. The men jumped and ran from all points to the steamer and their stations on the boats which they launched and had rowed from the steamer out into the river all inside of two minutes. The Virginia's crew would be good men to have on some of those British steamships to show them how to get boats away after being torpedoed.
