Girard captures Governor's Cup in Bath finals
Wilfred Girard of Brunswick won the Governors' Cup at Bath Country Club by defeating Rodney E. Ross Jr. 5-4 in a 36 hole final. Girard led 3 up after 18 holes and extended the margin to win despite Ross rallying early. The victory follows Girard’s recent Maine junior golf crown.

Tragic Fire Claim Mary Ruth MacElman Life
Three year old Mary Ruth MacElman died Friday night after a Friday incident with matches. She suffered burns to the chest neck and arm while a bed trapped her in a corner. Her family and hospital staff are thanked for care. Born November 22 1930 she was the daughter of Harold B and Elizabeth C MacElman and survived by siblings and extended relatives.

El year Peter Renaud, 40, of 1 Farrin street Bath, died after a diving accident at a floating stage on the New Meadows river in West Bath. He struck mud and a rock ledge, paralyzing his body, and died at Memorial hospital after hours of conscious chatter with family. He leaves a wife, a daughter, and several siblings.
