Blaze destroys Danforth and Federal street stables
A fire Friday morning swept the stables at Danforth and Federal streets in Wiscasset, destroying furniture and vehicles owned by Mrs. Ness tlett Strong. The blaze, started by faulty hose, threatened neighboring dwellings and required Bath aid. Chief Parks dispatched Engine 4 and several volunteers who fought the flames for about two hours.

The Stephen R Jones a 354 foot collier from Mystic Line docked at Kennebec Wharf Bath on July 9 with 6700 tons of bituminous coal. She drew 25 feet and rode in on soft mud avoiding bottom contact unlike her prior 260 foot depth arrival. Captain Levenau on vacation First Officer Knox commanded with George Murley as second officer. The ship built in 1915 at Newport News by Crowell Thurlow now carries Hyde Windlass Co. gear and will tramp to Boston Portland and New York until late August.

Captain Millard L. Dunton died Saturday aboard the steamer Sandwich shortly after leaving Sailor's Snug Harbor Staten Island for a Maine vacation. Formerly of Bath he lived at 359 Front Street then 366 Front Street. He commanded an ocean going towboat before his wife’s death sent him to Sailor's Snug Harbor. He leaves two daughters Mrs Rena Pinkham of Buffalo and Mrs Carrie Dougherty of Wilton and two sisters Mrs Carrie Drew and Mrs Nettie Clark of Portland.
