Destroyer Monssen to Visit for Fourth Weekend
The USS Monssen DD798, a 2050 ton Fletcher class destroyer, arrives Thursday at four o clock and will be seen off by pilots that afternoon. Named for Lieut Mons Monssen MOH recipient, the ship built at Bethlehem Staten Island launched Oct 1948, commissioned Feb 1949, served in Pacific, decommissioned 1946, reactivated Fall 1951, now with the Atlantic fleet. Commanding officer is Charles R Nutto Jr of Philadelphia.

Thunderstorm damages electric lines across Bath area
A two hour thunderstorm battered Bath and much of central and southern Maine causing widespread damage to telephone and power lines. In Bath the middle fire alarm circuit failed briefly as lightning struck near Central Grammar School. About 400 to 500 telephones were knocked out in the Bath Brunswick district, with transformers and cables damaged in several towns. No buildings were struck in Bath. damages included a cottage at West Point and a home in Brunswick. The storm disrupted service, with restoration underway and most lines expected to be back by noon.

The U S S John S. McCain destroyer leader, built at Bath Iron Works, is scheduled for launching on Saturday July 12 at 6 30 p m The vessel, 493 feet long and 50 feet beam, carries enhanced surface and air weapons and advanced electronics for hunter killer missions Its keel was laid October 24 1949 and completion is planned for early next year The ship cost about 29500000 and is sister ship to the Mitscher launched January 26

City approves bonds for South End eight room school
The City Council at a special meeting approved a 175000 bond issue to finance construction of an eight room school at the South End with equipment. The bonds are to be repaid within ten years. Justus H. Miller Inc won the bid at 137521 for construction, lowest of seven bids.

Report claims construction of 150 single houses may start soon at Lambert Park Bath. Two or more contractors have surveyed the site while U S Representative Robert Hale says the Navy is considering a housing project there for personnel from nearby naval stations.
